Joy Andrews Owner and Dance Instructor

Joy's Teachers include:  April Brand,Jeaneen Mitchim and Rachael Mandell, Hope Niven along with several teenage assistants.

My Husband is Bruce Andrews and we have been married 35 years this year.  We have two daughters,two grandsons and one on the way.  Bruce is an artist/musician  "2Blu and The Lucky Stiffs Band"  Bruce is the lead singer and plays the harmonica

Bruce Andrews is the new Executive Director of the Shelby Arts Council.  Congratulations!!!

I have taught in dance in Alabaster since 1986

I have also taught in Columbiana, Jasper,Bluff Park, Bessemer, Hoover, CenterPoint, New Life Interfaith Ministries in Bessemer, Pioneer Playschool in Bluff Park for 7 years,Jacksonville State University's Marching Ballerinas Choreographer for 4 years and many other places over the years.

Joy's Dance Company has won hundreds of awards and Regional Titles etc. over the past 23 years of competing in dance competitions.  Between 2008-2014 Joy's has won 16 State Titles.

Joy's competitive dancer's have been to the following competitions:  Applause Talent, Stars Of Tomorrow,VIP, Kids Artistic Revue, Thunderstruck, Platinum Dance, Encore, International Dance Challenge, ShowStoppers, Alabama State Dance Championships,Starbound, Dance USA, Dance Xplosion, Starpower, Dance Maker's and many more.  Joy's Diamond Girls from Jacksonville State University Won American Allstar National Champs in New Orleans. 

Thunderstruck 2011 Joy's Elite Team won Eye Of The Storm as "Best Concept"  for  the dance "Poor Man" 

 May 14, 2011 was declared Joy's Dance Company Day by the City of Alabaster and Mayor Frings

Joy's Dance Company Spirit Award, Joy's Dance Company 2 time Most Entertaining Award in Panama City at International Dance Challenge. 

I like to use clean music as well as good taste in costumes and in their dance moves.  I want my kids to have a good experience in dance class and then they will do a great job because they are happy.  Love my dance girls!

My Daughter Tiffany Andrews Hines is a very graceful and beautiful dancer and she owns "A Time To Dance" Studio in Camden, Alabama. Tiffany has won numerous high point awards in dance competitions and also more Special judges awards on her solo work. Tiffany won the American Allstar soloist for Alabama from Thompson High School.  Tiffany has been dancing for 28 years now. Tiffany also comes home from time to time and choreographs for Joy's Dance Company.

 My youngest daughter is Jessica Andrews Tucker a beautiful dancer/choreographer and now teaching kindergarten in Rome, Ga.  Jessica was Head Marching Ballerina at Jacksonville State University and in Miss Alabama 3 times. Jessica held the titles of Miss Jacksonville State University, Miss Lake Martin and Miss Shelby County.  Jessica Won Non-Finalist Talent Winner in Miss Alabama 2009.  Jessica is a kindergarten teacher in Rome,GA. and she teaches at Rome Civic Ballet.  Jess also comes home to choreograph for Joy's Dance Company every year. 

Joy Bakane Andrews:  Member of Jacksonville State University's Dance Company, Semi Finalist in Miss Alabama USA Pageant, Miss Congeniality Miss North East Alabama and Miss Mimosa, Homecoming Queen (Berry High School - Hoover) 1974, B-Team Queen - Berry High School, Jacksonville State Univeristy Junior Class Favorite, Member of UAB Blazer's 1st Danceteam for Basketball.  I am trained in Ballet,Jazz,Tap and gymnastics.

Philosophy

I am proud to say we keep it clean at my studio.No nasty or suggestive adult lyrics are used.We want to be progressive and current,but also maintain a Christian atmosphere with a good environment for teaching dance.

Dancing is a passion for me and I want it to become a passion for my students.I believe at the beginning levels (dance classes) should be FUN.

I think you can teach fundamentals without intimidating kids,they should look forward to dance class! As students continue their dance instruction and gain experience we strive for better technique and performance attributes.
